This weekend was pretty awesome...though it feels like it's been a week since this last Friday. It's not like it was all that busy, but a lot happened this weekend. It started with a late night on Friday, getting things ready for drill this weekend. By the time I finished up, I had about three hours of sleep before having to get up to drive out to Winchester. The drive itself brought back so many memories, with the normal morning stop at Sheetz before the 0630h officer call. I even picked up a lottery ticket while I was there since the mega millions jackpot was a little over two hundred million for Tuesday.

After finally arriving at the armory, though, it ended up being pretty chill. There wasn't all too much scheduled besides some paperwork and a showdown inspection and some unpacking. So with the sparse schedule, there was a lot of time to just chat and catch up with a bunch of the guys. That was really nice. And then there was the regimental muster on Saturday. We got released a little early on Saturday to take the hour+ drive down to Staunton, where I had a chance to catch up with a bunch of guys from the rest of the battalion as well as some of my old OCS classmates. Of course the best part was dressing up in blues and being pretty. The whole thing wrapped up around 9:00 yesterday night, and then we just hung out and did some dancing and bar-hopping and talking with girls until about 0200h in the morning...at which point I tried to drive back to Winchester. About halfway up I-81, though, I couldn't maintain consciousness and ended up pulling off to crash for a few hours at a rest area just short of Woodstock. Sleep in the driver's seat was amazingly refreshing and I was ready to go again when the sun came out.

I made it back to the armory on Sunday morning with about two minutes to spare before our report time. After that, I just wrapped up some paperwork, and loitered around for a little bit until final formation. There really wasn't all that much to do today as we actually worked quite efficiently getting everything done the day before. Anyway, that was that, and I was on the road a little after 5:00 in the afternoon, listening to the skins game on the radio all the way home. Oh, the other random highlight of the weekend includes getting my cell phone back from overseas. Now, I can recover the phone numbers of alll of the girls I used to know.

And I thought I was cutting it close picking up my dress shoes from my parents' tonight. I stopped by Trader Joe's on the way back home around 8:00 tonight and then spent another hour or so packing up and ironing my uniform before packing my car. I gave myself a little haircut tonight, too, in order to cut down my morning routine. But yeah, I got a call from the BICC tonight as he was in a bit of a pickle. His uniform was at the dry cleaner's, but the dry cleaner's wasn't open any more. I couldn't help but laugh before inviting him over to the house so that he could use one of mine. The only problem is that it's going to take a little adjusting...read sewing. He's actually sitting on my sofa upstairs working on it right now. We're on hour two right now, but he's come a long way since the beginning of the night. Anyway, my alarm clock is set for about three and a half hours from now, so I should get going.

For those of you who haven't gotten it yet, it is drill weekend this weekend. It's our first drill since getting back from Afghanistan, so it'll be an interesting one. We'll mainly be doing inventorying and paperwork. But there'll also be a military formal tomorrow night down in Staunton. I actually like those because I feel pretty wearing my dress blues. And when that wraps up, it'll be back to Winchester for a few more hours of work before finally coming home to enjoy the last few hours of my weekend. Hopefully, I'll have something to share when I get back on Sunday night. Until then...

I almost started on my packing today. For some reason, though, napping on the couch always makes a much more appealing option. I've got another half hour or so before I go to bed though. I'll try to get some work done tonight so that I can take tomorrow afternoon to go to the Trader Joe's grand opening by my house...among other things.

Highlights for today include a pretty cool Newton's third law lesson this morning with balloons and stuff and then dinner over at the parents' with sister, gram, and cousins. When that was over, and after some careful consideration, I ended up buying a few dozen eggs tonight at Target of all places. They're for a little demonstration in class tomorrow. Hopefully, all will go well.

I'm getting so bad at procrastination - or good at it, depending on how you look at it. I had about six pages of stuff to write for my class tonight, so I came home from school rather early to get a start. But after an hour or so of working, I decided that I was too tired to fiinish. So I put my head down and took a nap for a while. When I woke up, there was maybe another two hours before class...just enough time to wrap up, drive over to the parents' for chow, and make it to class with a few minutes to cram for the mid-term. On Tuesday morning, I even procrastinated on taking out the trash. I was woken up by the truck heading around the neighborhood and didn't get the trash outside until about 28 seconds before it pulled up to my house.

On the bright side, I did get my laundry done today. Tomorrow, I will have to get all of my stuff together for drill so that I don't stay up too late on Friday night. I know that it's not going to happen tomorrow, but I'm half-hoping that me blogging it might inspire me to actually do it. We'll see.

I came home early after work today and started off my afternoon by taking a nice little nap on the sofa. When I woke up, I wanted to procrastinate a little more, so I started lifting weights and watching CSI. Eventually, though, I started getting hungry. But at the same time, I didn't really want to cook...and I wasn't feeling like steak tonight. So I remembered that I used to buy cans of Campbell's soup all the time when I first moved in. So I looked down in one of my cupboards and found a dozen or so cans stacked neatly in my kitchen. I decided on the garlic potato soup for tonight, but that wasn't quite enough. As I was emptying the can to put it in the microwave, I noticed a few cans of tuna fish. Well, considering that I wasn't going to be kissing any girls tonight, I figured I'd go for it. So I emptied the can of tuna fish into the bowl of garlic potato soup and typed in three minutes on the microwave. Pure genius!!! Not only was it good, but it was good for me...kinda. Anyway, that was dinner for tonight - much better than chips and salsa. Though, if I'm still hungry after I finish this, I'll probably finish up with some chips and salsa. I picked up this lime and habanero salsa from Trader Joe's a few weeks back and just tried it the other day. Oh, it's so good. I was talking to Jane about it yesterday and we were talking about getting those lime Tostitos chips to go with the lime salsa. As long as my mouth can handle the limesplosion of taste, it'd probably only be the best thing ever.

So tomorrow is election day. That'll be good for two reasons. Number 1 - I get a sticker that says "I Voted." Number 2 - People will stop calling me!!! Has this been happening to everyone or is it just my vote that's so important? I've been averaging 3-4 of these every day for the last few weeks. Okay, I get it. If anything, leaving a stupid message on my machine makes me want to vote for you less.

But yeah, that's that. Today was a pretty busy day. I started at 0500h this morning and spent the day at school before coming home for an hour to finish a paper for my Monday night class at Mason. I had to conduct an interview for this paper too...and time was running out as I only had about two and a half hours before class. So I looked down my buddy list on AIM and picked out one of my students from my first year of teaching and started asking him questions. It was actually very convenient because I was able to write my paper while he thought of his responses and just copied and pasted quotes in from the conversation. After about an hour and a half, I was done and I printed out my paper just before heading over to the parents' for dinner. Everyone showed up today including my three sisters, my brother, and my grandmother. Dinner itself was pretty good too. And then there was class and then I came home to watch myself win another week of Fantasy on Monday Night Football. Good times.

It was an early start this morning. I woke up around 0530h to get my haircut in before heading into DC for our double/triple header. We won our first flag football game and then I reffed a game before we lost our second game around noontime. I came home to shower for a little bit before doing some homework and getting together with my group at Jamie's over some coffee. I came home for a few hours after that, lying down on the sofa with football running on tv. Then I spent the first half of the skins game over at the Reston Glory Days with Ben. We started off with the nachos before downing a few pounds of cheese fries. Those made me a little drowsy though, so I had to come home for the second half.

I'll just sleep on the couch tonight with the game running in the background, I think. Tomorrow is my first of two teacher workdays, so I'll get to sleep in a little. Traffic shouldn't be as bad tomorrow, and I won't have to worry as much about what to wear. Ahh...

Yesterday was an old school hang-out Friday night with my boyz. I was a cheerleader for Ben and Thuy at the INOVA in Centreville as they gave blood. No one got sub-four yesterday, but they both came close. After that, we had some chinese food and then came back to my place to play some poker for a few hours. Then it was a showing of Rounders after that, wrapping up finally around three or four in the morning. Oh, I forget that we squeezed in some loitering in between as well. We spent a half hour or so walking through blockbuster and some other video store. And then we hung out at Jamie's General Bean for a few hours flipping through old Genus I Trivial Pursuit cards. It's hard to tell how smart we are when we flip through those. We've played so many times, we probably have a good number of those cards memorized by now. But it was still fun.

Today has been kind of a lazy day so far. I woke up late, around eleven or so and just sat down in front of the tv to watch the Ultimate Fighter marathon while working out a little in my basement. I just finished my leftover Chinese from a few nights ago too, and it's only a matter of time before I have to start working on my two papers due next week. Tonight will probably be dedicated to the Tech/Miami game and tomorrow to Flag Football in the morning and homework in the afternoon. Sleep is important too. With two teacher workdays coming up on Monday and Tuesday, though, I'm hoping next week will be a little less stressful. Only time will tell.

Today was cool. I started off by getting out of the house late, but I still took a quick detour to the Home Depot to pick up a rope to do a tug-of-war exercise (Newton's Third Law) with my class. I was pretending to be really cocky during my first period and ended up losing and getting a big stain on my pants when I fell down. That was interesting. Students throughout the day would point out my stain on my bottom and I just kinda shrugged it off. I spent some time responding to parents' emails too. With the quarter ending, everyone is worrying about grades, so I have been dealing with a lot of that recently.

I ended up spending my evening at home with Ian and the sis watching a movie that my sister got me for my birthday. It started off as a quantum physics-type movie to something more about psychology and religion...very interesting. It's called What the #$*! Do We (K)now!? It is interesting because we had just finished watching an episode of CSI before this where they were talking about people using science to mislead others. Anyway, I'm not saying that this is the greatest movie, but it does make you think...never a bad thing.

Other than that, I got e-mailed and AIMed by a few random people from my past today. That was nice. They were random female friends that I hadn't talked to for a while, so that was kinda nice. There isn't much more to say about that though. I got a letter in the mail yesterday. George Mason accepted me into their graduate program again. That's kinda reason to celebrate, right? I'll think of something to do this weekend.

So I'm not a violent person, but watching some classic fights from the ultimate fighter on Spike for the last half-hour has made me want to practice my boxing more. I know I'm not any good, but that's what practice is for, right? There's just something about getting punched in the face that's so appealing. Don't ask me to explain.

Other than that, I just had a lot of class today...about ten hours as teacher followed by an hour or so back home with the fam before spending another three hours as a student. The quarter is wrapping up, so I'm having a lot of students starting to come after school to salvage their grade. I wish their motivation were different, but at least they're trying.

I'm tired though. I'll write more this weekend when I have more time.

01 November 2005 2312 EST
There's actually been a lot going on these last few days, but I've just been so tired that I haven't had a chance to write about it. I just got back from a three hour training meeting over in Winchester for drill in a few weeks, and I'm considering going to bed already because I am just plain pooped. But I just had to share a few things before crashing tonight. Number one on the list is $2.19. That's how much I paid for gas at the Sheetz in Winchester. That's crazy, isn't it? While I was there, I had to play around with the MTO too. I just polished off six inches of my first Sheetz sub since getting back to the States and oh did it taste good.

Yesterday night was just as long. I had my three hour Monday class at Mason, but I hung around at school for three hours working with students before heading over to the parents. Unfortunately, staying at school so late pushed me back to the afternoon rush hour and it took an extra half hour to get to FFX. On top of that, the lights were out when I finally showed up. At first, I thought it had something to do with halloween and then I remembered that my parents had gone north to New York for the weekend. So I broke into the house and searched the fridge for a quick dinner before heading off to class. The rest of the day wasn't so exciting.

And there was this morning. I had one of my sophomores come in before school to my classroom and ask me how to tie a tie. I don't know. It was really cute and it made me feel so grown up to teach him. Even better, it was his tie for his JROTC uniform. But yeah, that was probably the highlight of my day. And now that I have shared, I can now go to bed.

After spending a majority of yesterday with my family, I took the evening for myself and spent a lot of it posting some comments for a class assignment and watching tv. I chatted with Thuy for a bit online about college football and SNL/Mad TV. Then I pretty much fell asleep on my sofa as the clocks returned to Eastern Standard Time.

I woke up this morning to my alarm at around 0600h and was off to DC after a quick haircut and shower. We had one of our best showings at flag football for the 0800h game. We didn't play that great, but I got to play around with Dave calling old TJ pass patterns from the line of scrimmage. We connected once on a #2 pass with a nice little pump fake. We should have scored twice, but oh well. We ended up winning in the end; and besides how we played the game, that's all that mattered.

When I got home, I went back to napping on the sofa after throwing some clothes in the washer/dryer. Then I joined up with Ben and Thuy to watch some football over at hooters. Before I knew it, I was stuffed with nachos and hot wings. Even right now, five hours later, I can feel my belly all bloated and I can taste the hot sauce burning my insides. Hopefully, a good night's rest will get all of that out of my system. Anyway, not much else to report. It's back to school tomorrow.

29 October 2005 0818 EDT
29 October 2005 0818 EDT
It's interesting how much dreams can be influenced by, say, a half hour commercial consisting of young women taking off their clothes. You see, I went to sleep on the sofa last night with an old episode of Star Trek running on Spike TV. Then throughout the night, I had all of these dreams involving very forward women who would be very quick to take off their clothes and whatnot. I woke up in the middle of one of these dreams to find that there was a Girls Gone Wild infomercial running on the tv and everything fell into place. I was tired though, and I forget whether or not I turned the tv off before putting my head back down. Okay, so maybe I left it back on.

Anyway, yesterday was pretty cool. Lenny got married again (long story) and then I hung out with the sibs afterward at Mark's Duck House before heading over with Jane and Ian to join the boys over at Patriots. Interestingly enough, Ben wasn't really involved in the singing and seemed to be pre-occupied all night. It may have had something to do with the Chinese waitress he met over at Hooters just before he showed up. I don't know. Call it a hunch. He was doing a lot of projecting too, btw. That's why I wouldn't mind embarrassing him here on my page if it came down to it. You see, every time an attractive woman would walk by or sing, he would get a little loud and talk about me staring or something. To be honest, though, after spending a year overseas, I have adapted relatively well coming back to the co-ed environment. Working all day at a high school will help you with that. When you're monitoring the halls, you can't turn your head to follow every high school girl who is trying to mimic the dress of Britney & Co. That would just be bad.

Anyway, since I ate so much yesterday - two dinners, one at Steph's and Lenny's and one at the duck house - I will try to get a workout in this morning before eating some more over at Yenny's for lunch with the family. I've got some studying to do this afternoon and then who knows what for tonight. I'll keep you posted though, as always.

27 October 2005 2347 EDT
27 October 2005 2347 EDT
There are a couple of interesting items of note today. First off, I just got back from watching the Tech game over at Glory Days. I hung out with Jane and Ian tonight. While I was waiting for them to show up, though, one of the intel guys from my unit ended up popping up and saying hi. I hadn't seen him since we'd gotten back, so it was great seeing him in the maroon and orange. He was one of those 5+ year plan students while he was at Tech and spent a lot of time living it up in Blacksburg doing the bartender thing among others. Anyway, he's doing great...traveling and probably making 2-3 times my salary these days.

Anyway, before that, I kinda attended about five minutes of a lecture with Jane. You see, I was really tired this afternoon. And instead of coming home right after school to take a nap, I spent a few hours with some students. So by the time I got home, there was only maybe 20 minutes to nap before heading back out. So I set my alarm on my cell phone and crashed on the sofa. Before I knew it, though, it was an hour later. I guess I was so tired that I changed the alarm but never actually set it. So I'm running around crazy and head straight for the car to catch up. Unfortunately, traffic and parking put me another half hour or so behind and I didn't show up until the lecture was almost over. Luckily, Jane was nice and saved multiple spots for me before finally giving up and just hanging out to wait for me by the door. So to make up for it all, we just ate and hung out watching the Tech game afterwards.

The other highlight of the day came when I pretended to kirk out in class and yelled at one of my students to sit at the desk in the front of the room and put his hands flat on the table. Apparently, he grew up in catholic school or something and got really antsy when he though I was going to hit him on his hands. So I played along for a little bit before doing the demonstration. Anyway, that was fun and tomorrow is Friday. This weekend equals sleep. Done and done.

27 October 2005 0007 EDT
27 October 2005 0007 EDT
Why I stayed up to watch five extra innings of a baseball game whose outcome mattered nothing to me is beyond my comprehension. But I did it anyway and went to sleep a little after 0200h yesterday morning. I woke up about three hours later and drove on with my day.

Class was relatively uneventful today...but I did do a little demonstration with two of my classes where I pretended like I was going to hit one of my students. That was kinda fun. I hope no one goes home and tells their parents about it. I mean, it was for a good cause. I was teaching about Newton's first law of motion.

Anyway, that was class. I went over to the parents' after school and napped over there for an hour or so before heading over to Mason for class of my own. Surprisingly, that cute girl who'd been missing for a few weeks showed back up tonight. That was a pleasant surprise. The rest of class was pretty bland though. But hopefully, some online discussion this next week will spice things up. Who knows.

Other than that, I still don't have anyone going with me to the lecture tomorrow. Last chance, people. Give me a call.

25 October 2005 2308 EDT
25 October 2005 2308 EDT
So I was supposed to get a lot more done when I came home today, but I didn't. I stayed after school, grading papers and whatnot for about two hours before heading over to Trader Joe's to pick up some food...mainly my soy chips and four different salsa varieties. By the time I got home, though, my motivation to get through all of the stuff I brought home with me kinda dropped. So instead, I put my head down on the sofa and napped for a few hours. After that, I took care of a few non-school-related things I've been procrastinating on and that's pretty much been my evening. Dinner tonight was leftover birthday cake that my sister made me and chips w/salsa. Oh, thanks to all of you who sent me birthday wishes, family, friends, and strangers included. It's always nice to know that you care.

Oh, and if you missed my birthday, that's okay. I will be accepting wishes and presents through the rest of the week...which reminds me. Is anyone up for a science lecture in DC on Thursday night? Robert Hazen will be giving a talk entitled Genesis: The Scientific Quest for the Origins of Life starting at 6:45. I know it's short notice, but you can't have much of a social life if you are a regular reader of my page. Give me a call if you're interested and want to carpool or meet me there.

25 October 2005 0101 EDT
25 October 2005 0101 EDT
I will be in bed within ten minutes, but I thought I would at least update tonight. The birthday was uneventful, but it was a nice time spent with family. First off, my mom and my sister both baked me cakes...each at their respective locations though. Then I got a chance to see my brother and watch his wedding video over dinner, and I talked to my dad about fantasy football for a little while this afternoon. We were just strategizing and trying to weigh pros and cons of various deals. I'm hoping he and I can work something out since both of my cousins are hoarding the running backs in our league.

Other than that, though, it's just the same old stuff. Class was average...but oh! The walk to my car from class...you see, you don't carry umbrellas in the military. I've grown used to that and so I didn't even consider grabbing the umbrella from my trunk when I started walking to class today. But when class let out, it was pouring outside; and after a fifteen minute walk through the parking lot to my car in hurricane-like conditions, I've decided that the anti-umbrella practice would be one that I'll end soon. That's all I have to say about that.

23 October 2005 2103 EDT
23 October 2005 2103 EDT
I went to sleep around 0200h yesterday morning after watching Closer. I was feeling a little depressed after the homecoming dance last night, so the sad movie kinda hit the spot. Going to sleep was pretty easy after that...even with the temperature in the house starting to drop down in the 60s.

When morning came, I couldn't stay asleep. Once the sun rose, I had to fight for unconsciousness, eventually giving up around 0900h. I got up at that point and went to the basement, where I did some last minute homework for Sunday's games with various political talkshows on in the background before heading over to the coffee shop for some groupwork with one of my classmates. We "worked" for about two hours or so before I came home. We got about an hour's worth of work done and spent the rest of the time talking about various topics, from socializing to roommates to teaching and working out. From there, I came home for another hour or so, which I used to lift some weights and watch football. Then I caught up with Ben and Thuy over at the Glory Days in Reston. There, I had a cheesesteak and cheesefries while I watched my teams as they went on to their worst week of the season.

So now it's 9:00 on Sunday night and I've got plenty of time to sleep. Instead, I'll probably lift some weights and try to get a chapter of homework in before going to bed. When I wake up, it'll be my birthday...yay.

22 October 2005 2348 EDT
22 October 2005 2348 EDT
I just got home from the homecoming dance at school, and I ended up not going to another party that I was invited to. I'm trying to pinpoint exactly why I'm not going since I actually like the people who invited me; and the only thing I can think of is that I just don't have the energy right now. It's true. For me, being social is very draining and I already hung out with people last night. It's different if you're with people you know. But when it comes to meeting new people, I don't know. I know a lot of people aren't like me in that way, but that's just the way I am.

So instead of going out tonight, I warmed up a couple of frozen burritos and plopped my bottom on my sofa while I put on some old DVDs. That's so much easier, isn't it?

Last night, Ben and Thuy actually ended up hanging out after I went out with Ben and a bunch of his friends at Cafe Asia. It was an interesting night. I had fun and all; but there were definitely some awkward points. So instead of staying out longer, we just circled back around to my place where we lifted some weights while falling asleep watching a couple of really bad movies: Envy and Poor White Trash in case you were wondering. Thuy and I fell asleep and got a good few hours rest during the movies, but Ben stayed up and watched the whole things through for some reason. Nothing else too exciting happened. We played a little poker and that's pretty much it.

Tomorrow is dedicated to studying and football. Maybe I'll have more stories to tell after that. Interesting note...the two most popular songs at the dance for the few hours I stayed were the Electric Slide and Cotton-Eye Joe. Imagine that.

20 October 2005 2348 EDT
20 October 2005 2348 EDT
There isn't all too much to report today. I did end up studying for a few hours with Ben. We hung out at a newish coffee shop off of 29 called Jamie's General Bean. It was a nice change of pace compared to the Starbuckses that we normally hang out at. I think we'll probably end up there again eventually.

Other than that, homecoming week is just wrapping up. I still don't have a date, so it looks like I'll be going stag to the dance on Saturday. I think I'll be alright though. I'm still considering whether or not to show up at the other halloween party I was invited to on Saturday night after the dance. I would go, but I'm not really a fan of wearing togas. What's up with that, anyway? Oh well. Tomorrow is probably going to be spent napping and then socializing a little at Cafe Asia with the buds and various others. I'll tell you how it goes. Oh, and I bought a mega millions ticket for the drawing tomorrow. I'm really counting on the 100+ million to help me out with the bills. Wish me luck, okay? I bought it at the gas station by my house off of exit 52. Get this...since they are switching from Mobil to Sunoco, they have a grand opening thing up for the next two days and gas was down to 2.49 there today. Can you believe it?

20 October 2005 0014 EDT
20 October 2005 0014 EDT
I'll just take a few minutes to update before going to bed since I didn't write anything yesterday. The biggest thing that stands out about today is the fact that my students were on crack. You see, it's homecoming week at school and today was the day where they dressed up in their class colors. The girls are also fresh off of the powder puff football highs from the evening before as well. So yeah, everyone is excited. A few dozen kids even showed up to school about an hour early to decorate the locker commons. Then in between periods, they played the Electric Slide over the loudspeakers and the kids - and some teachers, but not me - were all dancing in front of the subschool offices. So yeah, the kids were on crack today. With the pep rally on Friday and the dance on Saturday, I can only imagine what the rest of the week is going to be like.

There was something else that I wanted to talk about, but I can't quite remember what it is right now. I spent a lot of time ironing yesterday. That wasn't it though. Other than that, Wednesday night classes haven't been as exciting any more because the one really cute girl that I was talking to hasn't shown up in three weeks. I'm thinking that she dropped the course. Other than that, I'm just chillin'.

Oh, I remember now. There's this girl on our flag football team. She's probably one of the toughest people I've met in a long time. Anyway, during our game on Sunday, she got a finger caught in a flag while she pulled it off and dislocated her finger. So after the play, she's looking at her finger and holds it up for everyone to see. It's just bent sideways. She doesn't scream in pain or cry or anything - both things that I think I would probably consider. Instead, she just makes a random comment and starts walking calmly to the sideline. Dave eventually pops it back into place and then a girl on the other team taped it up. Anyway, if that weren't enough, Tina even comes back into the game maybe 5-10 minutes later. It's too bad we lost. Otherwise, it would have been a much better story. But yeah, I'm very impressed.

A few things happened tonight to put me in a pretty good mood right now. Number one was the retrieval of two of my favorite shirts from my parents' house. In the year that I was gone, a lot of my wardrobe migrated over to the parents' house, and I'm slowly pulling parts of it back, including one of my favoritest button-up shirts. After that, I went on to class and got my test back from last week. I missed two questions, but it was enough to give me an A- for the exam. I'm doing pretty good in that class so far, so that's a good feeling. I've started to slack off a little though. I didn't do my reading this week with all of the wedding festivities going on, but I'll catch up soon. In the next few weeks, I have a few papers due, so I'll take some time to do some studying with Ben or something.

Oh, and then I ended up buying gas on my way home from class. I had a hunch about one of the stations on 29, so I took a slight detour on my way home and hit the jackpot. $2.69 - that's right, baby!!! I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it myself. With some luck, we might actually start inching back to the low twos in a few months.

I forget what else I wanted to talk about today; but now that I wasted the last hour and a half in front of the tv watching football and ultimate fighter, I think it's time for bed. I'll have more tomorrow. Things to look forward to in the next week include birthday and the homecoming dance.

Since I can't get myself to do any work right now, I might as well start with today's update. This could be a long one today as this is the wedding edition.

Let's start with all of the wedding festivities. We started off early on Saturday as the crew went over to Stephanie's place to buy her from her family. This was the first time I'd gone along for the fun - a Chinese tradition - but the whole event was a little more than what I expected. I won't go into too many details, but let's just say that there was a lot of embarrassment and way too much guy-on-guy action for a heterosexual wedding.

After that, we brought the bride back to the house, where a huge amount of family was lying in wait. It was really cool seeing everyone again...uncles, aunts, cousins, everyone. We went through some formalities there before heading off to the church for the wedding. We got there a few hours early...so while they were setting up, I had a chance to pace back and forth inside and outside of the church, writing and rehearsing my best man toast. When the wedding finally started, I had a little snaffu when I seated my grandmother in the wrong row. I really didn't know where she was going to go because we didn't rehearse it the night before. Oh yeah...there were some issues with the rehearsal dinner the night before and we didn't really practice everything. But it wasn't bad by far. The whole weekend was a extremely good time and I can't remember seeing my family so happy before. It was just a great feeling seeing all of the family together, laughing and smiling. We were just feeding off of each others' excitement the whole time. It was great.

But yeah, the whole ceremony started on time and even finished early. It was almost unreal standing next to Lenny the whole time, through the vows and the music. It was a strange feeling watching him grow up like that right before my eyes. And he seemed so happy and everything was going so well yesterday. The weather was perfect and everything else just kinda fell into place. I was very proud of him, and I couldn't help but smile throughout the ceremony when I looked at his face and saw the joy that was radiating Of course, I was thinking about my little part the whole time too. I had Lenny's ring in my left breast pocket and Stephanie's in my right. I just didn't want to stumble and cause a delay. I did the whole thing perfectly considering how simple the task was. But hey...there are no small actors, right?

Anyway, we went from the wedding to the reception. I drove Lenny and Steph, and we ended up showing up nearly last due to all of the extra pictures people wanted to take at the church. It was probably a good thing that the pictures took so long though. We were so far ahead of schedule with the short ceremony that not all of the food was ready yet. Anyway, at the reception, I snuck outside for about twenty minutes to finish practicing my little speech after they announced everyone in the wedding party. I went through it three or four times, making a few small changes here and there before I was finally happy with it. I had a few hours left before I had to speak, though, and the extra time was good to calm my nerves a little. Anyway, the toast went well...I got the laughs and the oohs and ahhs that I wanted. It was curiously similar to one of my blog entries if that gives you any idea.

The rest of the night went well. Apparently, my grandmother was shopping me around all night. I got a bunch of random cousins coming up to me asking if I knew that she had asked them about single girlfriends who would be good for me. Oh, and since we are on the topic of girls, there were a lot of good looking ones around this weekend. Granted some of them are somewhat off limits being family and all...but still. If I wasn't so busy with the whole wedding and all, it would have been nice to talk to more of them. Something about being in a tux with a pretty flower pinned to your breast can give a guy a lot of confidence, you know? Also interestingly enough, the few times that I did find myself talking to girls, I would usually have a cousin or sibling watching me closely. All of that pressure just made the whole situation much more complicated than I would have liked. But hey, I had a really good time.

For the post-wedding festivities, I just went out with my sisters and Ian to the IHOP in Fairfax, a staple for any late-night gathering in NoVa. It was cool catching up with them and comparing notes on the whole event to see how everyone else saw things as they unfolded. Anyway, that went on until one or two in the morning. Then by the time I got back to my house, I had about six hours of sleep before having to get back up to head to the parents' for the post-wedding wrap-up/brunch before seeing the rest of the family off. That was this morning. I had a chance to see more of my cousins on my mother's side. Unfortunately, with all of the military stuff over the last few years, I had missed numerous weddings and hadn't seen a lot of them in 3-4 years. But today, I got a chance to catch up with a bunch of them as their kids enjoyed my old Teletubbies and Powerpuff videos I had left at my parents' place.

From there, I actually cut out a little early to give a couple of my cousins rides down to the bus station in DC before heading off to join my flag football team for a disappointing loss on the ellipse this afternoon. My lip is swollen a little and I have a few cuts inside my mouth from a few plays involving me getting elbowed in the face and whatnot. But I had a good time still. On my way back from there, luckily, I remembered that I was supposed to return the tuxedos from the day before. So I stopped by the Men's Wearhouse in Fair Lakes for a few minutes to take care of that. In the parking lot, I kept the engine running for few minutes to catch the last few plays of the Skin's game on the radio. It was almost a repeat of last week's disappointing finish. But hey, if losing football games was the worst part of the weekend, then I can't be doing too bad, right?

When I left with my sister for my parents' this evening, little did I know that the short visit was going to turn into a four hour event. We started off with the usual formalities...to include dinner. I think I've stopped by the parents' all week so far. Maybe that's one of the reasons why I haven't been doing nearly as much grocery shopping since getting back from overseas. I just spend so much time visiting mom and dad and eating their food, I don't need that much at my house besides cereal, soy chips, and steak.

Anyway, when Lenny showed up, we had a bunch of wedding discussion and eventually some conflict. Now, I'm not a psychologist, but I'm in the middle of taking an educational psychology class, so that means that I'm almost completely unqualified to meddle in people's business. However, these aren't people we're talking about. It's family. So I butted my head in and we ended up spending a few hours sitting around the table discussing some deep-rooted issues. I'm not quite sure how useful all of the talk was, but we ended up hugging in the end...so hopefully, the discussion was more helpful than harmful. Only time can tell, right?

But yeah...the wedding is on Saturday with the rehearsal dinner scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. I really should have taken a day or two off work, but oh well. I started really working on my best man toast the other day while proctoring for the PSATs, but I'm still far from a final draft though. It needs to be much more profound and witty than its current state. So maybe I can find some time to work on it during my planning period. It's always a tough call though. You see, they have copies of the Washington Post in the teacher's lounge, so I usually waste a good 10-30 minutes working on sudoku while putting off work. Maybe I can forgo that tomorrow.

I usually let Jane post these links, but I was searching for some good science articles to use in class and I ran into this one about the discovery of a
4000 year-old bowl of noodles in China. The significance of this find is that it supports the theory that the Chinese invented pasta as opposed to the Italians...with the explanation for the migration having something to do with Marco Polo bringing it back with him through his travels. Interesting stuff, huh?

Anyway, today was an interesting day for sure. School didn't so much happen as today was PSAT day. So class lasted for about three and a half hours, with all of it consisting of taking the PSATs. Due to this exciting and monumental occasion, I decided not to wear a tie to school today. That was a first for the year. I don't have enough data points to really see what kind of an impact this has on class, but I always feel like it might have a slight psychological impact on the kiddies. Like today, near the end of the last section of the PSAT, one of the kids in the class asked if I was going to homecoming. Being that there is no talking allowed, I probably should have just told her to be quiet. But being me, I had to let out a smart remark before placing my finger to my lips to motion her to stop talking. I said that I needed to find a date first. Of course, I should have known that all of the kids would start running with that. So as the PSATs wound down, instead of actually concentrating on the test, the kids were starting to think of a list of teachers I could ask out. Their consensus was one of the vice principals.

Of course, when they shared their idea with me, I had to ignore them and not comment. They claimed that I was blushing when I turned away. They were probably right.

Other things I accomplished today include finally buying sheets for my bed. I figured that I should do that since I would be having company over with the wedding and everything. I mean, sleeping on a poncho liner is fine for me. But if my aunt and uncle slept in my bed, they would probably want sheets of some sort. I guess normal people tend to be picky like that. I came home a little before 4:00 this afternoon, giving just a few minutes to straighten up before an investigator came in to interview me about one of my fellow guardsmen for a security clearance. I was very straightforward, but it didn't last as long as I thought it would. After about ten minutes, he was gone and I just puttered around online for a little bit before heading over to the parents' and eventually class.

I can't really think of too much to write about today. I was tired almost all day today after staying up last night, so I could barely stay awake to study for my mid-term after school today. Hmm...actually, I really only studied for maybe a half hour or so. I spent the rest of my time napping at home and at then later at the parents' place. I wasn't too worried though. I mean, I read all of the chapters and have been participating in class every time. And yeah...it didn't end up being too bad. I know that I missed at least one question, but not much more. I'll find out next week.

Other than that, I just did a little bit of exercise and watched Dodgeball when I got back home. Tomorrow is PSAT day, so school should be relatively unstressful tomorrow. That's what I'm hoping at least. Plus I did all of my laundry and my ironing this past weekend, so I'm not all stressed about what to wear. It's funny how much time I spend on picking out my clothes for school. I think I spend more time on it now than when I was going through high school myself. But yeah...that's pretty much it.

Don't worry. Tomorrow's update will be better. I think Jane bought a condo today.

My ears are still ringing from the show tonight. I went to the Weezer/Foo Fighters show with Thuy and a few of his friends. It was pretty awesome, but it did pull me away from a lot of my work/studying. Fortunately, another weekend is right around the corner...though I'll probably be busy with the wedding and whatnot. Anyhoo, I should be working on some things since I have to wake up in about four hours at this point. I just wanted you all to know that I had an awesome time though.

Also, last night, I ended up staying up until about three in the morning because they were airing the debate between our two main state governor candidates. I know that I consider myself a conservative, but I must admit that I was much more impressed with Kaine's performance last night. I know that he'll raise taxes, but I'm actually okay with that because he seems like he'd actually do something with our money. Also the topic of gay rights came up too...and that is probably the biggest issue that swung me. Anyway, just my two cents. I'm sure there's still an interesting race left for these last few weeks. It's nice to be making an informed decision for once when it comes to local politics.

So my dreams have definitely gotten more interesting these days. I'm a little curious as to how my mind doesn't figure out it's a dream, though, as I've been uncharacteristically successful with the ladies recently...in my dreams, that is. Anyway, it's interesting how a nice little dream like that in the morning can change your outlook on the rest of the day. Oh, and it doesn't help that this is a three day weekend for me. Haha...here's me laughing at all of you private sector suckers.

As a quick side note today, I was on the toilet this morning and flipping through a back-issue of Psychology Today when I ran into this interesting little gem:

Personality Truth Online - What can you learn from a personal Web site? More than if you met the person for a few minutes and about as much as from a glance around their bedroom, according to a University of Texas, Austin study. Subjects who rated the personalities of 89 strangers via personal Web pages most accurately assessed the person's curiosity, creativity and friendliness. Least apparent online: emotional stability.

I liked that last little statement. I wonder what you all think about me...

Is this blog getting boring? Do I need more angst? I wish I had more exciting things to write about, but I am a very plain person. I spent tonight hanging out at my house watching the Bengals game on the ESPN gamecast online since I don't have ESPN any more with my basic cable. While doing that, I did some laundry and ironed my clothes while trying to catch up with various people on the phone.

I talked to a lot of people today. I'm kinda proud of myself for that. It started off this morning when I decided to wake up around 0900h for some reason. About a half hour later, I got a call from Thuy and we met up at IHOP for breakfast. It just so happened that it was his birthday too, so that was cool. I hadn't seen him in a little while. Then I caught up with my sister for a little bit as we carpooled over to that parents' together. It just so happened to be my mother's birthday too, so we spent a big part of the afternoon there. Yenny wanted to watch the skins game at home, though, so we left around kickoff and I pretty much spent the rest of my day at home. I did put my night and weekend minutes to use though. I ended up catching up with Brett for a little bit, along with some of my soldiers, and I left a few random messages with others.

Tomorrow will be busy. I haven't done enough work this weekend, so I will need to catch up on some reading and some writing before I wrap up the three-day. So...how about I stop flipping through fantasy football sites and get to bed already. Good night, all.

Okay...so long day today. It was a wet one too. I drove around a lot this morning, discovering quite a few new places in the Centreville/Chantilly area before circling back to the house for Lenny's bachelor party. I would share about what happened there, but as is the rule with bachelor parties...whatever happens during the bachelor party stays in the bachelor party...or something like that. It wasn't too wild or anything. I mean, there was Lenny, me, and a few of Lenny's friends from his past, most of whom he'd met in church groups and whatnot. But hey, it was a decent time and we had the opportunity to beat up on him a little and embarrass him a little more.

But yeah...kinda glad that the party is done with. I don't know why, but it's been really stressful thinking about that stuff. There's the wedding next weekend too; but after that's done, things should be able to get back to normal. I've got a mid-term coming up on Tuesday for one of my classes, and then I have to write a couple of mid-terms as well for my own classes. On top of that, we start drilling again in November, so there's a lot to do to get ready for that too. I've been slacking a little on that though. I've kept tabs on about half of the platoon - the rest, I've called and left a message or two, but I haven't gotten a hold of a bunch of my guys. And today, I had to skip out on the B Company parade over in Woodstock because of Lenny's bachelor party. I mean, that's not really anyone's fault. It's just a little unfortunate, though, because I would have really liked to have seen all of those guys again.

Anyway, tomorrow will be catch-up. I've got a bunch of studying and work and laundry and cleaning to do. Plus, I think I am missing some birthdays here. I know Thuy's and Tommy's birthdays are in October right around now. My mom and my grandmother are within a week from now too, with my brother's birthday in two weeks, just a few days before my own. Unfortunately, I already know what I'm doing for my birthday. After a nice long day at school, I'll be heading over to Mason for a three-hour class which includes a guest lecture. Hey, you win some and you lose some, right?
